The recently amended Marriage Act now makes it easier to get married in Trinidad and Tobago in just 3 days after arrival. For wedding packages, as well as legal requirements, click here What time zone is Tobago in? Tobago is in the Standard Time Zone and does not observe daylight savings time (therefore it is one hour earlier there during the summer) I am going to Tobago in January. Is that a good time to go? In Tobago, there are basically 2 seasons - wet and dry. January falls into the dry season, which runs from October to March. The dry season doesn't mean that there will be no rain - there may be, but not as much as the wet season. Many are also concerned about Hurricanes in the Caribbean. Hurricanes tend to begin in the south and build as they travel north - Tobago is one of the most southerly islands in the Caribbean - chances of a Hurricane hitting our paradise island are very low. April - September is our wet season - it doesn't necessarily mean that it will rain every day (or every week for that matter). It just means that if rain is to fall, chances are that it will fall more often within these months - its like snow, it is very unpredictable when Mother Nature will allow rain. The temperature is still approx. 32 deg celcius. I'd like to complete my PADI certification in Tobago, what should I bring with me? You'll need to bring your referral from your current PADI instructor with you. Also, if you have any medical issues, please bring all official medical documentation with you. If you're already certified, please also bring your PADI certification card (and log book if possible). I am interested in diving in Tobago. Is there Beach or Shore Diving on the island? While there are some sites just about 8 minutes 'out', there isn't any worth-while beach or shore diving in Tobago. How does the diving compare to anywhere else in the Caribbean? Tobago's position in the extreme lower, south-eastern corner of the Caribbean, below the semi-curved island chain of the Lesser Antilles, is what is actually responsible for its profusion of marine life. Tobago is part of the part of the South American continental shelf, 70 miles off the Eastern Coast of Venezuela. The island sits in the pathway of the North Equitorial Current (the prelude to the Gulf Stream which begins in the lower Caribbean), from the open Atlantic & the Guyana current, which follows the contours of South America's eastern coast. The latter current brings with it some of the nutrient rich waters of the Orinoco River. As these bodies of water collide and intermingle, they generate a rich eco-system for the vigorous sponge, coral and fish communities. What's the viz and other diving conditions like? Tobago offers diving year round. Water temperatures generally average in the low 80s (degrees fahrenheit) with visibility customarily from 70 - 90 feet. The only time of concern is when the Orinoco River in Venezuela reaches it's height during the rainy season (July through September), pushing the fringing edge of this might tributary all the way up to Tobago's southern coast. I will be visiting Tobago but I am deeply worried about reading my e-mail as my business cannot stop. Is it easy to find internet access in Tobago? Some hotels/ resorts have on-site internet access. There are also internet cafes on the island now as well. Are ATM machines readily available and what systems do they support? Many of the major banks in Tobago, including Scotia Bank and National Commercial Bank are a part of the Cirrus system, so participating cards will work. Bank machines can be found in Scarborough (the capital of the island) |
